District Plan to Help Chilean Earthquake Disaster
Another disaster has come to test the strength of our spirits, our generosity, and our capacity to serve. The Chilean Earthquake is the worst in some ways as it touches our heart in a very different way as we are close to Chilean people through our Youth Exchange students. We have been receiving and sending youth exchange students who have touched many hearts. We received an email from Sara Maurer. She is safe but her heart is broken to see the destruction and suffering. She wants to stay and help the victims.
Sandy Pyle, the District YEP coordinator is hoping to raise enough money to purchase a Shelter Box to send to Sara's club from our District. Sara’s family in Columbus, along with two other Chilean
students, Catherine Correa in the Westerville Sunrise Club and Diego Alvarado in the Hilliard Club are inspiring us to show the true spirit of Rotary and pitch in to help our friends in Chile.
With our growing experience in responding to disasters, we have a strategy in place for the wise management of our donations. We will use the same conduit that we used for Haiti, with the idea that we will send Shelter Boxes and financial assistance in the name of Sara and the other Youth Exchange Students.

District 6690 Establishes Haiti Relief Fund.
Governor Ram Gawande has returned from visiting his homeland in India and is disheartened to hear about the horrific Earthquake Disaster in Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, and has few resources to face such a devastating calamity. There is a great concern in our district and an out-pouring of sympathy and we all want to respond. After reading and consulting we have made a decision to form the District 6690 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund.
Governor Ram wants to thank and congratulate all of you for your kind response to The Philippines Disaster Relief, which was a great success. Our district has a big heart and now is requesting assistance for Haiti
1) Cash donations now to help the urgent crisis. Money will be used to purchase Shelter Boxes. Each club is encouraged to provide funds for at least one Shelter Box. The cost for one Shelter Box is US$1000.00
2) Next we plan to do a Medical Mission with the help of PDG Mel Simon.
3) Exploring with the Rotary district in Haiti to do a sustainable water or educational project.
