Rotary International has declared the month of August each year Membership Development Month. As we are beginning a new Rotary year, I would like you to think back to your humble beginning in Rotary. Relax…close you eyes…and ask yourself these questions. Who was your sponsor? What interested you about Rotary? Why did you say ‘yes’ when you were asked to join? Why do you continue to be involved? And then I’d like you to ask yourself the most important question of all. Who do you know who would embrace Rotary every bit as much as you have?
Most of you are now familiar with our district’s AIM campaign. The ‘A’ stands for ‘Ask’. That is the first step in positive membership growth in our district. Please take a minute to think about the people you work with. The people you golf, boat, play tennis or cards with. Your attorney, accountant, banker, Realtor, stock broker, or even the person who owns that little gift shop down the street. Would any of these people make good Rotarians? How about your spouse? Never thought of that, did you? How about your spiritual leader? There’s no limit in the classification of ‘Clergy’, and as we all know, most of our clubs need all the help they can get!! All I ask is that you think outside the box!
Remember how proud you were when you were asked to become a Rotarian? How honored you were that someone respected and cared enough about you to ask you to join their club? Well, it’s time to return the favor. Show a special person in your life just how much you care about and respect them. Share with them a special gift that only you can share. Share with them the Gift of Rotary! Propose a new member today!!
